Lore Terms of Service

Lore is an independent product operated by Erick Dronski. These Terms govern your use of the Lore iOS app, the Lore website at lore-web-liart.vercel.app, and related services (together, "Lore"). By creating an account, purchasing Lore+, or using Lore, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Lore.

The iOS application is also licensed under Apple's Standard End User License Agreement. These Terms govern Lore's accounts, content, services, and purchases. Mandatory consumer rights and Apple's Standard EULA control if they conflict with these Terms.

1. Eligibility and accounts

You may browse Lore without an account. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. You are responsible for providing accurate account information, protecting your credentials, and activity under your account.

The current release supports email and password accounts. Additional sign-in methods may appear only when they are fully configured. Do not share an account in a way that defeats purchase, security, or usage controls.

You may delete your account in the iOS app under Profile > Settings or on the website under Profile > Account. Deleting the account does not cancel an Apple subscription; Apple billing must be managed separately.

2. What Lore provides

Lore is an informational city, architecture, and history guide. Depending on your device, location, permissions, account, and purchase status, it may provide a living map, camera-based nearby-place scanner, place cards, historical deep dives, walking tours, narration, a visit journal, photos, and badges.

Coverage is curated city by city. Lore does not promise that every place, street, city, or object is recognized. Scanner direction, AR placement, map positions, historical facts, generated routes, translations, and narration may be approximate, incomplete, unavailable, or wrong.

You can also share a journal note publicly. Sharing is off by default. When you turn it on and save, that note is published as traveler lore on the place it belongs to, under the display name on your profile, where other people using Lore can read it. Journal photos stay private to you. Section 6 governs shared notes.

Other public contribution and media-submission features, including public photo submission and the website contribution form, are not part of the current release. Lore may add them later under additional contributor and moderation terms.

3. Safe use

Pay attention to your surroundings. Do not use the scanner, map, or tour while driving, cycling, crossing traffic, entering restricted areas, or in any situation that requires your full attention. Do not trespass, obstruct others, or rely on Lore for navigation, emergency response, engineering, legal, safety, or accessibility decisions.

Camera, location, heading, and AR results are best-effort. You remain responsible for where you walk, what you photograph, and how you use information shown by Lore.

4. Lore+ and App Store purchases

Lore offers free functionality and may offer the following Apple in-app purchases where available:

Lore may also offer fixed-duration, non-renewing Trip Passes if they appear in the App Store purchase sheet. The App Store purchase sheet shows the controlling localized price, duration, taxes, availability, and any introductory offer before you confirm payment. Website prices are reference information and may not reflect your storefront.

Eligible monthly or annual subscribers may be offered a 7-day free introductory trial when the App Store shows one. Eligibility is determined by Apple. When a trial ends, the subscription begins at the displayed price unless canceled.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation. Monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Apple may charge the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel at Apple Subscriptions. Canceling stops the next renewal and does not normally end access already paid for.

Apple handles App Store payment credentials, billing disputes, cancellation, and refund requests under Apple's policies. Lore cannot cancel an Apple subscription by deleting a Lore account. Purchase restoration requires the Apple Account that made or received the purchase.

Lore+ currently unlocks unlimited deep dives, curated walking tours, and full-story narration. Free scanning, place cards, the daily free deep-dive allowance, visits, journal features, and badges remain available without Lore+. Features may evolve, but Lore will not misrepresent what a purchase unlocks at the time of sale.

5. Acceptable use

You may use Lore for personal, lawful, non-commercial purposes. You may not:

• probe, disrupt, overload, or circumvent Lore's security, authentication, quotas, purchase checks, or rate limits;
• scrape, crawl, bulk-download, or systematically extract Lore content or data;
• reverse engineer Lore except where applicable law expressly permits it;
• use Lore or its camera features for surveillance, facial recognition, harassment, stalking, or identification of people;
• infringe intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights;
• resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute Lore or its content without written permission; or
• use Lore in violation of law, these Terms, or applicable third-party terms.

Lore may limit or suspend access reasonably necessary to protect users, the service, providers, or legal rights. Standards for notes you share publicly are in Section 6.

6. Traveler lore you share

Your journal is private by default. Each note has a Share with all travelers control. Turning it on and saving publishes that note as traveler lore on the place it belongs to, where other people using Lore can read it.

A shared note publishes the note text, the place it belongs to, the date, and the display name on your profile (or "A traveler" when you have not set one). It does not publish your email address, your precise location, or your journal photos, which stay private to you. Notes are limited to 2,000 characters. You must have an account and be at least 13 years old to share a note.

Your rights and the licence you give Lore

You keep the rights you already hold in a note you write. By sharing it, you give Lore a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, reproduce, display, and distribute that note within Lore, and to hide, remove, or reformat it for moderation, safety, or display, for as long as the note is shared. That licence extends to the providers Lore uses to host and deliver the service, and only for that purpose. It ends when the note stops being shared, except for backups and moderation records that take a limited further period to expire.

You confirm that a note you share is yours to share, is not confidential, and does not break the standards below or anyone else's rights. Lore does not sell shared notes and does not license them to third parties for advertising. Lore will ask you first if it ever wants to use your note outside the app, such as in marketing.

Content standards

Shared notes and display names must be suitable for a general travel audience. You may not share:

• unlawful content, or content that promotes or facilitates illegal activity;
• harassment, bullying, threats, or intimidation of any person;
• hate speech or attacks on people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, age, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation;
• sexually explicit material, nudity, or any sexual content involving a minor;
• graphic violence, gore, or glorification of violence, self-harm, or terrorism;
• another person's private information, images of identifiable people shared without their consent, or impersonation of another person, group, or Lore;
• spam, advertising, solicitation, repetitive posting, malware, or links posted to drive traffic elsewhere;
• deliberately false history, hoaxes, or fabricated claims about a place or the people connected to it;
• content that infringes copyright, trademark, privacy, or publicity rights; or
• encouragement to trespass, damage a place, or enter a site unsafely or without permission.

Objectionable content, reporting, and removal

Lore has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior in traveler lore. Every shared note other than your own carries Report this lore and Block this traveler in its menu. Reporting takes a reason; blocking hides every note by that traveler from you. Both need an account so that reports are attributable.

A note that several travelers report is hidden automatically while it is reviewed, and its author cannot un-hide it. Lore reviews reports and removes content that breaks the standards above within 24 hours of the report. Lore may also suspend sharing for, or terminate the account of, a traveler who seriously or repeatedly breaks these standards, and may refer content to the authorities where the law requires it.

Turning sharing off

You can turn sharing off for a note at any time in the journal, which removes it from the place. Deleting the note, deleting the visit, or deleting your account removes the shared copy as well. Reports, blocks, and moderation records may be kept as long as reasonably needed for safety, abuse prevention, and legal obligations.

Responsibility for shared notes

Traveler lore is written by other people. It is personal recollection and opinion, not curated history, and Lore does not verify it. The author is responsible for what they share. Lore has no obligation to monitor shared notes in advance, but may review, hide, or remove them, and displaying a note is not an endorsement of it.

7. Content and intellectual property

Lore and its original software, design, curation, copy, branding, and databases are protected by intellectual-property and other laws. These Terms give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use Lore on devices you own or control, consistent with Apple usage rules. No ownership rights are transferred to you.

Some historical text, images, maps, videos, and source links come from third parties and remain subject to their licenses and terms. Attribution and source links are provided where available. External services are responsible for their own content and availability. Notes that travelers write and share are covered by Section 6, not by this section.

If you believe content in Lore infringes your rights, email esdronski@gmail.com with the work, the Lore content or URL at issue, your contact information, the basis for your request, and a statement that the information is accurate and you are authorized to act.

8. Privacy

Lore's Privacy Policy explains what data Lore processes, camera and location behavior, service providers, retention, and deletion. By using optional permissions or cloud identification, you direct Lore to process the data needed for that feature.

9. Third-party services and Apple

Lore depends on Apple, Supabase, Google Cloud, Vercel, map and content providers, and external links. Their own terms may apply, and their availability can affect Lore.

Apple is not responsible for maintaining or supporting Lore. Erick Dronski, not Apple, is responsible for Lore and for addressing claims about Lore, subject to applicable law and Apple's Standard EULA. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of the Apple license terms and may enforce those terms.

You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a United States government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism, and that you are not listed on a United States government prohibited or restricted-party list.

10. Availability, changes, and termination

Lore may add, change, pause, or discontinue features, cities, providers, or content. Internet access, compatible hardware, permissions, and third-party services may be required. Lore does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

You may stop using Lore at any time and may delete your account. Lore may suspend or terminate access for a material Terms violation, abuse, security risk, legal requirement, or discontinuation of the service. Terms that by their nature should survive termination, including intellectual-property protections, disclaimers, and payment obligations already incurred, will survive.

11. Disclaimers and responsibility

To the extent permitted by law, Lore is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, or non-infringement. Historical and generated content may contain errors. Lore is not a substitute for professional, official, navigational, or safety information.

To the extent permitted by law, the operator is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of or inability to use Lore. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

12. General terms

If a provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without permission; Lore may transfer these Terms as part of a reorganization, financing, acquisition, or sale of the service, subject to applicable law.

Lore may update these Terms to reflect product, provider, or legal changes. Material changes will receive reasonable notice through Lore or the website and will apply prospectively. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
